Everyday I'm Shufflin...

Funny how it works, but as my nagging hip 'tenderness' was getting to be more-than-a-nag, a pretty deep chest cold knocked me on my ass. Sometimes it isn't enough for your mind to know you need a rest, but this time my body, both in terms of inflammation and lack of immunity, has forced the issue.

Because of my sore hip, I abandoned a weekend run, and was playing with the idea of adding it back in on Monday [my usual full day of rest]. But as Sunday progressed, the small tickle in my throat took full hold and this, combined with the inability to get anywhere close to breathing hard during my Sunday trainer ride, made me realize I really needed the rest day.

I emailed coach, who also suggested also taking Tuesday to rest up, hydrate, and get healthy. And give my hip one more day to rest.

In this forced period of rest, I have finally been able to find a Chiro/PT practice that does ART, comes highly recommended, and takes my insurance. After an initial appointment Monday, some quick stretches, pokes and ultrasound, my non-medical degree diagnosis was confirmed - some type of tendinitis in an insertion point in my quad muscle. [It is sore/nagging just below my hip flexor, at the top of the 'Sartorius' muscle below.]

I have been a firm believer in ART for years, and had a regular 'team' in NYC, but I feel like I have finally made the first steps in building my team to stay healthy here in DC. It's amazing how someone can alleviate a quite deep pain with a few pushes/pulls/pokes. Going back on Thursday to review x-rays and create a plan moving forward. I have no doubt the X rays will reveal the scoliosis that is the basic reason I have dealt with hip/knee issues since I hit puberty. But I was very impressed with the clinic and am SO happy that today my hip feels about 60-75% better.

So despite feeling much better today, both chest cold and hip, I am sticking with the plan of taking today off. [Didn't even bring my stuff to work so I wouldn't be tempted to enjoy a lovely warm lunch run]. We may be shuffling the next two weeks around, as tomorrow was supposed to be a Threshold Test on the bike, but sicky-HR data won't be of much use. But we will see how I feel when I wake up.

We will also be looking at option #4 tonight for a potential move (however, I would say this is Option #2 because 2 of the previous places were quickly crossed off the list). Please keep your fingers crossed. We really are looking for a place to rent long-term, so we are being picky and know what we want, but it's making the process a bit more time consuming and stressful than it needs to be.
