This is the first time I have spent an extended period of time in Africa and actually been able to envision a life here. I have always has fleeting visions of being based here, but never had a concrete idea of what life may be like.
On Thanksgiving, I had a was lucky enough to be invited to a dinner party full of new friends - from all walks of life, working in various capacities in Lusaka. It was a small glimpse into what 'Mzungu' life may be like here (white-people, roughly translated).
This morning was the Dutch Reform Market, a huge open air market that is the last Saturday of every month. The weather was perfect (clear blue sky in the middle of rainy season), was great, I had some of the best steamed pork buns ever, and got most of my Christmas shopping out of the way.
Tomorrow morning (if it is clear) I will venture out for a run, hoping to not get too turned around in the streets filled with round-abouts that all look exactly the same.
Heading home in a few days, but very glad to be coming back for most of January (when I will actually stay in a guest house and not have to eat hotel food every day).
I'm jealous of your travels. Have fun!
