Day Dreams

A random list of things going through my head recently, in no particular order (of importance or time).
  • I can't wait to have a garage. I will put a treadmill in it (which is already waiting for me at my parents). And hang our bikes on hooks and pretend we are organized people.
    • Related, I really like running on the treadmill (in moderation).
  • Jillian Michaels - you bitch. You tricked me into thinking I wasn't THAT weak with Level 1, then BAM! Level 2 is SO MUCH HARDER.
  • We've finally agreed on a house. Small miracle. WHY IS TIME GOING TO SLOW, release new models, dammit.
    • Not complaining! No negotiating, set price, awesome deal. Please karma, let this work out for us. We really really really are good people.
  • When did working 8:30-5pm make me so damn tired? Oh yea - Now, bc I've never really done it before.
  • New job was strange. And awkward. Now it's better.
  • I've been limiting myself to buying lunch 1/week and it's actually working.
  • I pay 45.99 per month for one of my gyms and I've been exactly 2 times in the past 6 months. You do the math.
    • But it's a shower near work! Says the girl who can't organize her life enough to run to work.
  • In theory, I really want to start swimming again. But I can't seem to make myself do it.
  • I miss riding my bike.
  • I have had a few really good long runs and it makes me SO HAPPY.
  • I'm really excited to have the house to myself for a few days.
  • LONG WEEKEND!
  • I really want to go to ride my bike for a long weekend in Colorado. I also am being cheap because I want to save all my airline miles for an extravagant far-away trip somewhere I've never been (Cinque Terra) sometime in the not-defined future.
  • Gold's Gym sort of grosses me out.
  • It scares me to think about finding new running routes.
    • I'm SO BORED with my current 3, 4, and 5 mile loops
  • San Fransisco so many times this year!! SO EXCITED.
  • I hope I find my motivation to train for Lake Placid. Because I really want to. But I am starting to get worried.
    • Fingers crossed starting to pay someone again to tell me what to do will help.
    • I'm currently more excited to do the Diabolical Double than I am to do Lake Placid. IMMT only took me about 2 hours longer last summer. I'd like to make them closer together this year (slower DD, faster IM?) However, I am not sure it is physically possibly to go slower on some parts of the DD = can you stay upright riding slower than 4pmh?
  •  I've cut wheat out about 80% of the time. Why is that last 20% so difficult?
    • Trader Joe's Gluten Free Granola (loaded fruit and nut) SO GROSS.
    • Trader Joe's Gluten Free Waffles? SO AMAZING.
    • Bob's Red Mill GF Pizza Mix? Pretty darn OK.
    • Naked Pizza GF Crust? A weekend post-long run lifesaver. [Chicken, spinach, tomatoes and red onion nom nom nom]
    • Gluten Free Turkey and Spinach Lasagna tonight? Wish me luck.

More than 3 things.

IT has control of my computer right now so I have some time to kill.

  1. My foot hurts. Dammit
  2. Having not run anything near tempo pace in months - last night I remember how it hurts so good. And makes 'race pace' seem impossibly fast.
  3. There has been good news in my house this week and it makes me really happy.
  4. Driving out to ride in Poolsville is so worth it.
  5. As is stopping at Vie de France on the way home for fountain soda and pastries.
  6. I realized my wrists have been hurting in aero for a variety of reasons: new, slippery tape on bars and arm warmers. Basically, my arms are slipping further forward than usual and I'm holding my bars at a different spot, causing my wrists to bend. Deep thoughts during my ride on Saturday.
  7. I ate a Honey Stinger chew off the road on Saturday. It passed the 5-second rule, and I was HUNGRY. Those suckers are hard to open when you're riding!!
  8. See this. Related, Saturday's ride was the best in a really long time.
These are my deep thoughts of the day, via iPhone. Apologies for spelling errors.

OH! One more, I've almost officially give up on morning work outs. No doubles on my schedule, wanting to spend more time with my man-friend when he gets home from work and the darkness in the morning have convincing me that working out from 5:30-8pm is where it's AT.  A blinking tail light plus a head lamp is all you need.

Also, this is how I've felt at work all week. It's a very productive attitude.

A day in the life...

1. Ate a healthy breakfast of greek yogurt, blueberries and almonds, but in my hungover state once I got to work had a second breakfast (1 hour later) of a large, non-whole wheat bagel with veggie cream cheese and a tall latte.

Nothing beats a margarita hangover like caffeine and carbs.

2. At a meeting about a new study we are starting, I was told I was thinking like a 'vagina' person, while others were thinking like 'uterus' people and 'vaccine' people.  Hm.  OK.

3. The fire alarm went off at work at 4:45.  This is a normal occurrence, usually ignored.  However, building maintenance and 4 police men came into my office about 5 minutes later and announced that the alarm was caused by a burst steam pipe IN MY OFFICE....  I thought something had smelled funny.  First thing Monday, I am asking for a new office.

4.  75 minutes on the treadmill just FLEW by as I watched the TERPS! (fingers crossed) play their way into the BIG DANCE!!

Random Musing before a Marathon-Meeting Day

1. I love mornings when 25 degrees feels balmy. Last night, walking to book club, it was so cold I started crying and decided I was over living in New York, where I had to walk everywhere and was moving. I changed my mind on my 4th glass of wine, 2nd cookie, amongst my great friends and actual intelligent conversation...Next month there will NOT be intelligent conversation, as we chose the cheesiest, girliest, novel we could find, Straight Talking by Jane Green (I read Mr. Maybe by her at an airport once and am obsessed and try to follow it's very deep life's lessons ha)

2. It is supposed to be 44 tomorrow!! I will be running OUTSIDE in the morning. Too bad it supposed to back down to the teens for the race this weekend. I still think I am going to wear capris, as my tights have been falling down during my long runs a bit and that would not be good if I am actually going to 'race' this race- which I may do (more on that later)

3. I just got this Valentine's Day party invite, love it! ha

4. Does anyone have any feelings on Lesotho?

....yeah, didn't think so. I'm having to perhaps develop an opinion on Lesotho in the next few days. Input appreciated.

5. Ha- I just had a coworker come in who was in Zambia for the past few weeks working on a new project on Male Circumcision (I work in HIV prevention), and he referred to the people who do the 'service delivery' as the snippers- HA oh man, I love my job (most of the time)

Ain't got much...

I slept in a bit this morning. Went to the gym, and was able to stay on the treadmill for an hour thanks to the lovely ladies of the View

Now I am at work, obviously exhausting the possibilities of Facebook...

My birthday is next week. My mom went into labor at the Thanksgiving table. I turned 16 on Thanksgiving, and was bitter I could not get my drivers license on my actual birthday. I turned 21 the day before I had to fly home for the holiday, and spent a majority of that flight getting acquainted with the Delta 777 bathroom.

But really, I am lucky that my birthday always falls within a few days of Thanksgiving, so I am able to spend time with my entire family. Oh, and get a Carvel ice cream cake, in the shape of a turkey. Every. Single. Year.

I will be celebrating in the city tomorrow night with my friends, eating really good BBQ, drinking buckets of beer, and enjoying live music.

On my actual birthday, I have a great day planned: A long bike ride with my dad if the weather allows it (he said his limit is 45 degrees, so there is a chance). Then my mom, sister and I will go see Twilight. I love anything vampires. So this is very exciting.

As you can see, I don't have much going on at work right now. Which may change, but for now...

Random thoughts for the day....

Salt and Vinegar Chips? Not such a good idea when you burned the roof of your mouth on pizza last night.

No matter your politics, you HAVE to admit that Michelle Obama has GREAT hair.

Speaking of great hair, two words: Anderson Cooper.

Still need to get a new tire iron to change my flat. Oh yeah, I'm blaming my lack of tire changing skills on a cheap piece of plastic.

The Hill is like watching a car-wreck. And I can't stop. I'm just glad they obviously planned for Michelle Obama's speech to not start until AFTER The Hills was over. :)

Do you think if Obama gets elected, his name will still show up in spell-check?
