The spirit of COMPETITION.

I woke up yesterday feeling like I had been hit with a ton of bricks. With an extra workout added to my weekend with this girl, I gave myself a pass and took a full day off. I had already decided against my planned strength class in the PM, as I had some major baking to do.

Tonight, we are attending a Cookie Exchange with a twist. It's a COMPETITION. Nothing motivates two lifelong athletes when you say 'prizes.' So we went to work (me cooking, Dan taste testing). After spending way too much time searching the internet, Chocolate-Peppermint Thumbprints won out. Ease+quantity+presentation. I think we have a chance at the win.
I went with green decorations on Batch #1 to match the mint flavor.

Batch #2 - wish they had all been decorated like this.

Assembly line in progress.

I'm not sure what went wrong, but my melted chocolate was way too thick to 'pipe' so I had to use a spoon/knife and don't love the results If I had to do it again, I would add something to thin it a bit. But the flavor is great, and the chocolate cookie base recipe alone is worth the effort.

In a funny twist, my mother will also be attending the cookie exchange, and in a total coincidence, she also choose thumbprint cookies. Her version "Salty Chocolate Nutella." I am a bit worried she may get me on flavor, but I think my decoration give me the edge :)

While I was waiting for my cookies to cool, I ran to Target to pick up my toy donation for my office holiday party and some odds and ends (side note: DO NOT buy tape in the wrapping section at Target, as they only have the pricey brand names offered there...go to the normal office supply section - UP Target brand all the way baby).

I was going to skip the 'Holiday Door Decorating Contest' in the office (yes...another COMPETITION), as I tend to get carried away with projects and just didn't have the motivation, but while browsing the aisles looking for things I didn't need, I stumbled upon something that gave me a bright idea. Behold, my door...yes, those are custom Snowmen - one for everyone in the office.
