However, it POURED rain for the first three miles (again, just like four weeks ago), and I just felt pretty bad overall - I think my body is begging for a rest week and I am not quite sure when to take it. It was so crowded it was impossible to get into any type of rhythm in the first mile. I have pretty much decided it is a waste of energy to try to PR at NYRR races 10k and less, they are just too crowded - it's not worth the effort. No excuses though, it was my best open 10k, so no complaints. My splits (my Garmin had me running 6.33 miles for 7:36 pace, which I am much happier with than my 7:45 chip pace):
| 1 Mi | 7:36.79 | |||
| 2 Mi | 7:16.58 | |||
| 3 Mi | 7:19.2 | |||
| 4 Mi | 7:55.59 | |||
| 5 Mi | 7:34.8 | |||
| 6 Mi | 7:47.35 | |||
| 0.33 Mi | 2:34.99 |
This week the Summer X-Country 5k Series starts up in Van Cortland Park and after these last two 10ks, I am very excited to get out of Central Park for some low-key, fast, cross country running!
Those good weeks of training will show up a little later for more important races. BUT 12 seconds in 4 weeks is 12 seconds in 4 weeks. Could be worse ;)
ReplyDeleteI agree with D! You still got a PR and even though 12 seconds doesn't seem like much, it's still an improvement! And by the way, that second and third mile were blazing fast!! Congrats!
